"Our Daily Bread", is a preservative free Health Bread.

A similar premix flour with more fibre (with Gillys famous "Fool proof "recipe attached) is available in certain stores nationwide. Contact us for details. Our daily Bread is a high fibre bread with a low glycaemic index (GI) and as a result is recomended for use by diabetics (even though the premix does contain a small percentage of sugar).

All the ingredients are natural and we pride ourselves in that we do not need any preservatives as the loaf will be devoured the same day it is bought!! This bread has been recommended by Heather Picton; a leading authority on matters relating to hyperactivity, because it has no Calcium Proprionate (a preservative) which has been linked to hyperactive and aggressive behaviour in children.

Easy to make and very healthy.

Will make 2 small loaves.

Ingredients

Dry

  • 2 cups brown flour
  • 2 cups white flour
  • 1 cup mixed seeds (raisins optional extra)
  • ¼ cup oats
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1 sachet instant dry yeast

Wet

  • 2 ¼ cups warm water
  • 2 tbs olive oil
  • 1 tbs honey

Method

  1. Mix the liquid ingredients.
  2. Add the dry ingredients and mix in with a wooden spoon (or by hand).
  3. Consistency should look like a fairly loose batter.
  4. Add this to two small well greased tins.
  5. Let the tins stand for approx 1 hr (up to 2 hrs in cold weather) for the mixture to double in volume.
  6. Place in preheated oven at 200º C for 15 minutes then 30 minutes at 180º.
  7. Loaves should be golden brown and sound hollow.
  8. If not, stick them back in for a few more minutes.
